Paranormal Activity Breaks Records

Surprise box-office hit, Paranormal Activity, has grossed over $65million dollars despite the film's mere budget of only $15,000. That is a record-breaking rate of return of more than 433,000 percent. The film broke The Blair Witch Project's record which had a 414,000 percent return on investment.

Paramount also went about a unique way of marketing the film, intially releasing it in only 13 college towns and a page on Eventful where moviegoers had to 'Demand it!' in their towns. More and more demands rolled in and the studio gradually widened the release. The low-budget documentary style horror flick was shot in first-time director Oren Peli's home, using unknown actors. They only spent $10million on all of the marketing which is not a lot by Hollywood studio standards.
