Why Artists need Music Publishers with Jody Gerson

While it's not always easy to negotiate a publishing deal, artists need them, so their songs are protected and looked after by their Music Publisher. In today's world, it's easy for someone to just take your music and apply it however they want. This is where Music Publishers step in to provide that type of oversight where they are working to protect revenue streams for their artists. Renman asks Jody her thoughts on whether artists need a publisher or not. Jody makes arguments for doing it on your own but also attests to the resources a Music Publisher can provide that artist and why this is crucial. Jody Gerson heads up Sony/ATV Music Publishing as a Co-President, and punctuates her advice with stories about Lady GaGa and hot young rapper Sammy Adams.
