District 9 [R] (Jason Cope, Robert Hobbs, Sharlto Copley)
Aliens going nuts in South Africa
Spread [R] (Ashton Kutcher, Anne Heche, Maria Conchita Alonso)
Kutcher stars as Nikki, who is something like a broke playboy/man-whore, who basically free-loads his way around L.A. living off the successful women he conquers. He meets a woman who lives the same groupie lifestyle, and they start to fall in love. But he ends up getting caught up and then homeless after being put out by one of his women and he turns to the groupie woman to help him out. It’s an Ashton Kutcher movie….don’t hold your breath.
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard [R] (Jeremy Piven, Ving Rhames, James Brolin)
Okay, mixed feelings about this one…I saw the trailer for this when I saw ‘The Hangover’ (hands down BEST movie of 2009!!!) and I didn’t quite understand what it was about. Piven is the man (Entourage, anyone?) but this movie looks rather weak. He plays a used-car liquidator hired to save a desperate car dealership for a big 4th of July sale…..I just want to know what the hell is Ving Rhames doing in some silliness like this???
The Time Traveler’s Wife [PG-13] (Eric Bana, Rachel McAdams, Ron Livingston)
Super chick flick about a woman who falls in love with a man who has a disorder called “chrono-impairment”, meaning he can travel through time.
Inglorious Bastards [R] (Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Simon Pegg)
Set in WWII a group of men, led by Pitt, escape their own executions and go on a mission to help the Allies defeat the Nazis. If you’re into this type of stuff then you may enjoy this…..otherwise looks pretty BORINGGGG!
Post Grad [PG-13] (Alexis Bledel, Zach Gilford, Michael Keaton)
A young woman graduates from college and can’t find a job, so she’s forced to come back home to her eccentric family and she falls in love with her neighbor, who is moving away soon. From the trailer, this movie has a ‘Devil Wears Prada’ chicky-flicky kind of feel to it; however I actually liked that movie. I don’t think I’ll like this one.
H2: Halloween II [R] (Tyler Mane, Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell)
Yet another installment of the slasher series. You already know the drill.
The Final Destination [R] (Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Hayley Webb)
Another one of these Final Destination movies with an all new cast….but there’s always a new cast because everyone always dies… End of the summer guilty pleasure movie!
The Open Road [PG-13] (Justin Timberlake, Jeff Bridges, Kate Mara)
JT tries to get his ‘serious actor’ on in this movie about a son (Timberlake) trying to reconnect with his famous athlete father (Bridges). Meanwhile his mother is bedridden and dying and he tries to get Bridges home to see her before she dies. I’ve seen Justin act before and I’ll just say this: he’s a better singer. And that really doesn’t say much! [R.I.P. Michael Jackson…….JT has got to be one of the biggest imitators alive, no disrespect…]
For The Shorties (PG & under)
Bandslam (Vanessa Hudgens, Gaelan Connell, Alyson Michalka)
Ponyo (Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Tina Fey)
Shorts (Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann)
